As a performing group, we promote appreciation and awareness towards percussion music-making through a wide range of musical genres ranging from contemporary local Ethnic fusion to Latin pop, Classical percussion ensemble and mass participation music-making (Community Drum circle), on the following platform.

James Khi

OneHeartBeat Percussions

Since Dec 2019, James has been appointed as the new Head of All Affairs and an Artist Facilitator. He has been involved in the limelight of the music scene in Singapore at a young age. He won the Singapore Youth Festival Competitions Distinction awards and was awarded the Best Drum Major in the SYF during his school education years.

He represented Singapore in 1979 for the Japan music festival with the first combined school’s band. After which, his passion for music continue with Yamaha Music Asia, specialising in teaching percussion and Drum Majoring in the schools and institutions. He spent his National Service in the Armour and Airforce Band in the direction of Cpt. Ervin Dragon.

He advanced his music-sharing and performed as an artiste and as a facilitator in Singapore and the region. With the passion, he constantly updates with some of the best Trainers/ Facilitators, attended Wellness and Disability workshop training with Mary Kynsh, Kalani Das MT, Simon Faulkner to name a few.

James specialises in the percussion hand drums and with the vast experiences he had facilitating the wellness and enrichment programmes that the company produces and organised.

Aden Firdaus Jam’an

OneHeartBeat Percussions

Since Dec 2019, Aden has been the new Head of Artistic Affairs and an Artist Facilitator. Aden started with us as a full-time Logistics Manager in 2007 that cares for all our instruments and ensures that they are in good condition. He believes strongly that our instruments are the extensions of ourselves in communication and expression. Aden started his musical journey as a percussionist in his secondary school military band where he served as the Band Major and Section Leader of the percussion section. Since then he continued his passion to join a local community percussion ensemble band and it continued to be his career after since.

Aden graduated with a degree in Business from UniSIM (now SUSS), and since joining us full time, he had completed his ABRSM Grade 6 in percussion music, Grade 5 in music theory and drum kit examinations. Constantly pursuing new knowledge of music-making and pedagogy, Aden has also completed several music facilitation training and playing by Arthur Hull, Kalani, Simon Faulkner, Mary Kynsh, Tam Tam Mandingue and participated in various conferences and forums locally.

A versatile and receptive artiste, Aden has performed at various local and international festivals and through those, picked up knowledge in other indigenous instruments such as the Native American flute and Irish bodhran.

Juraimi Abd Hamid

OneHeartBeat Percussions

Juraimi has worked with us as an Artist Facilitator for the past 18 years since the organisation was formed, bringing music to the young, old and all-inclusive groups of people.

Juraimi is a highly versatile musician and Artist Facilitator.
He has participated in numerous National Day and Chingay parades as well as Arts Festivals. His passion for music has brought him to Indianapolis, USA, for the Band of America festivals and other festivals in Ireland, Egypt, Turkey, South Korea, Indonesia and Bangkok to name a few. He is also an active musician involved in musicals such as the Forbidden City, and live televised concerts with MediaCorp Suria and Radio Television Malaysia.

As an instructor for 20 years, he has lead St Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School Percussion Band to achieve a Distinction Award at the 2019 Singapore Youth Festival.

Currently, Juraimi is a drumset examiner who also performs and teaches drumkit, various world and ensemble percussion instruments. He incorporates Native American flute, recorder and ukulele in his sharings and teachings.

Khairul Nizam Matnawi

OneHeartBeat Percussions

Khairul has worked with us as an Artist Facilitator for the past 12 years. Khairul works with Aden to devise instruments suitable for varying age groups and programme objectives, as well as to provide care and maintenance to our instruments.

He holds a Grade 5 in music theory (ABRSM) and has completed a course on Working and Facilitating the Learning of Children with Special Needs in the Arts by Social Services Training Institute (SSTI). Khairul also attained a WSQ Diploma In Arts Management by Emily Hill Institute for Creative Enterprise Pte Ltd.

Majoring in Malay percussion instruments such as rebana and gendang has brought Khairul to perform in various performances both locally and overseas. As an active member of Orkestra Melayu Singapura (OMS) since 1998, he is also part of the instrumental percussionist for in-house events, an accompaniment of dance productions, festivals, international exchange programmes and performances.

Nooresham Mahmood

OneHeartBeat Percussions

Sham has worked with us as an Artist Facilitator for the past 12 years. A spectacular performer who has been in the field of percussion for 17 years, Sham started his musical training in MacPherson Secondary School Band and pursued it further in the Singapore Armed Forces Band.

Sham is an active musician who plays the electric bass, oud and cello, and he directs musicals, concerts and recordings. His creative works brought him to places such as South Korea, the Netherlands and Dubai. A rhythm facilitator with his own unique style and charisma, Sham brings his diverse experiences into his sessions. He is extremely flexible and adaptable, allowing him to work seamlessly with pre-scholars, teenagers and adults.

Sham has attained a London College of Music Grade 6 in Drums, Grade 5 in Bass Guitar and holds a Specialist Diploma in Arts Education by National Institute of Education (NIE).

Ricky Yeo Sin Hua

Ricky has worked with us as an Artist Facilitator for the past 2 years.

Ricky started his musical journey in learning percussion instruments during primary school with the Chinese orchestra, acquiring proficiency in percussion & woodwind instruments.

Ricky has attended many percussion and music workshops both locally and internationally from a different genre of music.

Ricky has attained certification in theory of music from Asian Board of Royal School of Music.

Presently, appointed as music /percussion instructor/conductor for AMIS-MOE registered and guest musician for the Singapore Chinese Orchestra.

Nancy Ong

OneHeartBeat Percussions

Nancy works with us as an Artist Facilitator.

Nancy Ong was introduced to music at a young age when she started learning the piano at the age of 6. She picked up harmonica and pianica during her primary school days.

Nancy studied percussion professional under the guidance of several well-known masters and instructors like Li Min Xiong, Quek Ling Keong, Teo Teng Tat to name a few.

In 2015, Nancy choreographed a percussion performance for the ComChest Charity Show and was subsequently involved in the 8th ASEAN Paragames’s opening and closing ceremonies in 2016, where she involved all of her percussion students from various schools.

Jenny Chong Qing Lin

OneHeartBeat Percussions

Jenny works with us as one of the pioneer Artist Facilitator.

Jenny is extremely passionate about music and children. These two complementing passions allow her to be an excellent facilitator in a classroom.

Armed with ABRSM Grade 6 in percussion, Grade 5 in music theory, several of Arthur Hull training in Community Drum Circle facilitation, exposure to various art forms aside from music, years of experience working with children from various age groups and learning abilities, and her effortless way to make children feel at ease.

Jenny has proven to be a fun, effective and highlight respectable figure in any music setting.

Syed Ibrahim BHM

Syed is the founder and the former Artistic & Programme Director of the organisation.

Syed is a well-rounded teaching artist with more than 55 years in percussion music & education. After serving 8 years as the Head of Performing Arts Department at St Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School, he had since established OneHeartBeat Percussions company, earned a Specialist Diploma in Arts Education, Psychology and completed training in the art of facilitating community drum circle, HealthRHYTHM and Developmental Community Music. And recently, he holds a Master of Arts in Pedagogy and Practice from the Goldsmiths’ College University of London, UK.

As a Community Arts Educator, Syed served as a REMO Artist Endorsee, Endorsed Village Music Circle Facilitators (USA) and Enhance Artist Status from the National Arts Council, Singapore where he was given the support to promote music-making in Educational Institution and various Community Building initiatives in Singapore.

In recognition of his dedication to his craft, Syed is a proud recipient of the Spirit of Enterprise (Singapore) Award as well as the Citation Of Excellence in recognition of outstanding contribution to Percussion Education by the Percussive Arts Society (USA) at the recent National Percussion Band Festival at Indianapolis, the United States of America.
